Members are persons who enjoy preparing our worship space hospitality for our liturgical celebrations. Those with talent in general organization and decorating are welcome to serve. Sunday sacristans coordinate services needed prior to the liturgy. Volunteers help with laundering and ironing of the altar linens each week.
The Altar Server has a critical role in support of the priest and deacon at Mass and at other liturgical celebrations. Perhaps one of the first services a boy or girl can perform for the Church community is that of being a server at Mass. This service gives a sense of responsibility and builds kinship with the Church and community. It can instill a sense of pride and honor for their part in the celebration of the Mass. In our parish, altar servers include parishioners of all ages, both young people and adults. The parish provides training for all those who are called to serve God and His People in this important liturgical function.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, sometimes referred to as Eucharistic Ministers, serve by assisting with the distribution of the Blessed Sacrament at Mass. Confirmed adults may be trained and commissioned for this ministry.
Commissioned Eucharistic Ministers may elect to participate in additional formation to serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion for the Homebound. These ministers bring communion to parishioners who reside in nursing homes, assisted living facilities or in their own homes and are unable to travel to church.
The Gospel mandate to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, and welcome the stranger inspires the caring volunteers of Christ the King Cathedral. Every first weekend of the month bring non-perishable items and place in the basket located in the Gathering Space.
Purpose: All donations will be taken to Catholic Charities to help fill their food pantry.
A friendly hello at the Church door is the first contact you will have with some of our Parishioners. Dedication to serving at the Masses on a weekly basis is a commitment you will have to provide friendship, order, courtesy and reverence, both for the celebration of the Mass and for the congregants. Greeters are the first face of the parish and welcome those walking into our church.
Lectors proclaim the Word of God clearly and understandably so that all who hear may respond. The lector is responsible for the first and second readings of Scripture at Sunday Masses and other services. Parish training is offered on a regular basis as announced in the bulletin and website and is required.
The Master of Ceremonies (MC) is responsible for the proper and smooth conduct of the sacred liturgy. He or she works closely with musicians, servers and clergy, and the sacraments before and after each celebration. The MC organizes and rehearses the proceedings and ritual of each Mass. The MC assists the celebrant during Mass with the sacremantary, prepares the altar for communion, among other duties, during weekend Masses and special liturgies. One or two Mcs are needed per Mass. This ministry is open to confirmed parishioners that have been previously commissioned as Eucharistic Ministers and have been trained and commissioned for this ministry.
As people come into the church, many bring donations of canned and packaged food items for later distribution to families in the surrounding communities. Church members who recall the Corporal Works of Mercy – feed the hungry and give drink to the thirsty – give items from their own surplus in order to share with those whose needs may be greater than their own.
If you wish to donate food for the month of October we will be collecting – “Individual microwaveable oatmeal”
This item can be placed in the lime green container in the parlor. With your help we will be able to make a difference for those receiving meals on weekends. Thank you for your support and donations.
Purpose: To assist those in need in our Lubbock community.
All parishioners in ninth grade and older are invited to share their talents in the music ministry at Christ the King Cathedral. We welcome you as a choir member, an instrumentalist or with any gift of Music God has given to you. Opportunities include Celebrations Choir (9:00am Sunday), Chancel Choir (11:00am Sunday), or Youth Band (4:30pm Sunday).
Practice Times
Several teams of parishioners provide and serve meals to families and friends of those whose funeral liturgies take place at Christ the King Cathedral. Contact the Parish Office if you are interested in serving one of these teams.
Ushers offer assistance to those in need, take up the collection during Mass and distribute bulletins and other materials as needed. Our parish has a devoted, experienced group of ushers whose aim is to serve and to make our services as smooth as possible.
