Latha Garcia Tucker has been writing weekly articles for the Christ the King Cathedral bulletin since 2005. When former rector Monsignor James Comiskey retired in 2005 and moved to Kansas, there was a need to replace his weekly article, “View from my Window,” and Latha was asked to write an ongoing column about parish and school news. Today the article provides Catholic views and insights from the perspective of a lay person and topics have ranged from saints, prayer, doctrine, ministry, inspiration and current issues in the Church.
Latha spent much of her professional career in media, initially as a morning announcer for KALT-KPYN radio for three years and then as public affair director for KLLL, KONE and KMMX for 24 years. Since 2004 she has been an administrative assistant in the Fine Arts Department at South Plains College.
A cradle Catholic, Latha was born and raised in Brady and attended Cisco Junior College from 1974-76. She received a Bachelor of Science from East Texas State University in 1978.
Latha became a parishioner of Christ the King in 1980 and joined CTK’s singles group for young professionals who met weekly for fellowship and activities. There she met Jeff Tucker, whom she later married. The couple has two children, Tim and Margie.
Latha has served as a Eucharist Minister, usher and CCE assistant, and on the Liturgy Commission and Parish Council. When her children attended CTKC School, Latha volunteered in the CTKC School Café, as a chaperone, a cross country distance runner assistant and as a school committee member. In addition to writing a weekly article for the bulletin and website, Latha currently prepares coffee and donuts for Sunday Mass.
Latha’s hobbies include reading, running and working in the yard.
